George Harrington

I carry out research on advanced functional oxide materials with applications for energy conversion devices such as fuel cells, electrolyses, and gas permeation membranes, as well as sensors and next generation memory. I have a deep interest in the relationship between the synthesis/processing, structure/chemistry, and properties of materials, which I investigate through a well-rounded research approach including material fabrication, high-quality characterisation, and defect-modelling with a focus on interfaces and surfaces.

Since 2021, I have been working as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at RWTH Aachen, Germany.

From 2015-2021 I was an Assistant Professor at Kyushu University working within the Hydrogen Utilization Processes Laboratory and Center for Co-Evolutional Social Systems (CESS). I was also affiliated with the Next-Generation Fuel Cell Research Centre (NEXT-FC), and the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER).

From 2015-2021, I was also a Research Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where I worked in the Crystal Physics and Electroceramics Laboratory within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
